DatumDesk, ChatGPT or NotebookLM for NCC questions?

All three will answer an NCC question. The difference is where the answer comes from, whether it reflects the edition operative in your state, and whether you can file it.

1.General AI models: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini

General models answer from what they absorbed in training. They are fluent, fast and often close. But close is a problem when the question is a barrier height or a fire separation.

  • They can quote clause numbers that do not exist, or attach the right number to the wrong requirement.
  • They mix up NCC 2019, NCC 2022 and NCC 2025, because all three were in their training data.
  • They do not know which edition your state has adopted this year, or about a change that landed after their training cut-off.

They are excellent for drafting, summarising and thinking a problem through. They are not a reference you can file.

2.NotebookLM

NotebookLM fixes part of that. It answers only from the documents you upload, and it shows you where each answer came from. That is a real step up.

The catch is that you become the librarian. For NCC work you would need to find and load both editions, all three volumes, the Housing Provisions, your state’s variations and the relevant ABCB handbooks. Then you need to keep them current as amendments land and states change their adoption dates. If one document is missing or out of date, the citations will point confidently at the wrong rule.

3.DatumDesk
